Im doing a study around the battle of Budapest and got into the issue about the Budapest Campaign Arm shield 1944/1945. As there are some around on the Internet Im interested if some one know a more complete story of these.
Although never officially issued was there any production of them? I have various sources that says that a small number was made but never issued since the axis lost the city. Also on the Gellert museum in Budapest they have one that are thought to be a real one (See pic).
If produced, can anyone specify any numbers and/or location of the production?
If there are only copies or fakes can some one give me a small brief on when these were made and how to identify different versions?
I have seen a few, all lacking the swastika that are quite brutally filed off. How come? Also some have holed drilled in them at different locations. Why?
Some have a remains of what looks like silver coating. Why is this?
100 Thanks in advance.
